Sotogrande is one of the main sports destinations in Europe (partly due to being easily accessible from major European cities and in being served by both Malaga and Gibraltar airport) and in case Golf Today hasn’t mentioned it before, there are four championship golf courses located here. However, it is also home to the Santa Maria Polo Club, the most well-known Polo club in Spain so you can get a sense of the calibre of the location if the polo equivalent of St Andrews is here.
Polo has been called the “Sport of Kings” (here at Golf Today we do think the sport of golf deserves that title but we are biased) and with several well-established polo clubs and numerous polo tournaments held here throughout the year, it’s not surprising that championship worthy golf venues share space with another princely sport. Whilst La Reserva doesn’t offer Polo on its sports menu, its proximity to the polo clubs makes it an ideal location for any polo enthusiast or anyone curious about the sport.
Tennis is also part of the tapestry of life here and it is the extensive renovations at La Reserva Club to their tennis facilities that have made La Reserva a jewel in the Sotogrande crown. Their two clay tennis courts have been completely refreshed, whilst their hard tennis courts have recently been resurfaced with a six-layer Plexipave optimal finish. The ever-growing-in-popularity paddle tennis has seen some serious investment with all the courts now featuring 14mm turf enhancements and the installation of the only glass-walled paddle courts in Sotogrande, for a unique and dynamic playing experience.
Football at La Reserva has also been energised, not only in terms of the pitch but with the introduction of a coaching team, who use modern training techniques to help every player improve, from beginners to competitive athletes.
