Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, overcame a 5-shot deficit on the back nine to close with a 7-under 63 for a 23-under total and set up a playoff for the Sony Open in Hawaii with overnight leader Russell Henley (USA, 65).

He produced an eagle on the first extra hole, firing a 3-wood into the sun, to win his eighth PGA Tour title tying him with K. J. Choi for most Tour victories by an Asian-born player.

"It was a perfect number for me for a cut 3-wood, 276 yards left to right, follow wind. I knew the green was soft enough to hold it, and I was able to pull it off.

"To be honest I didn't even see it. But everybody started cheering and I knew it was good."

American Kevin Kisner (64) and Ireland's Seamus Power (65) tied for third at 19-under.

Defending champion Kevin Na never recovered from his second round 71 and finished T20 at 13-under.
