Sotogrande Golf Academy Names New Global Ambassador

One of the most respected figures in golf is announced as Global Ambassador for new Golf Academy

A highly respected two-time major champion has been announced as Global Ambassador at the new Sotogrande Golf Academy, ensuring the facility’s status as one of the leading golf centres in southern Europe when it sets to open this summer.

Opening this August at the award-winning SO/Sotogrande Spa and Golf Resort, the academy’s appointment of one of the most respected figures in international golf is an exciting development.

Former Solheim Cup player and captain, and two-time major champion, Suzann Pettersen, is now in partnership with the Sotogrande team. Her role as Global Ambassador will be to collaborate closely with the Academy’s teaching professionals to develop training programmes that reflect her strategic approach to the game. Instilling her coaching philosophy throughout the brand-new academy and drawing on her extensive high-level experience, not only will there be a consistent, elite-level methodology to support golfers of all ages and abilities at the academy, but also to establish the facility as a premier hub for golf instruction in southern Europe.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Suzann,” said Rami Badr, as CEO of Sotogrande S.A. “She is the perfect ambassador for our new Golf Academy – a world-class athlete with an astonishing resumé in the game, and with a dedication to the sport that is an ideal representation of the Academy. She is also a fantastic role model to inspire those beginning their golfing journeys with us here in Sotogrande.”

Pettersen shared her excitement about the partnership, stating: “I’m honoured to join the Sotogrande team and be part of this project. This new facility is outstanding and unlike anything else in the region. I look forward to spending time at the Academy and helping shape it into one of the best coaching facilities in the country.”

Pettersen’s appointment is a major milestone ahead of the Academy’s official launch, and her appointment, together with the facilities that will be available, underscores Sotogrande’s commitment to creating a world-class destination for golf training and development.

The Academy will feature cutting-edge Toptracer driving range technology, a natural and covered tee line with VIP practice area, a custom fitting centre, night-time practice facilities, and a bar and café. There will also be a new 9-hole par-3 course designed by former Ryder Cup star Manuel Piñero, short game practice areas including putting and chipping greens, and a professional coaching zone.
