Mikael Lundberg Claims Long-Awaited First Legends Tour Title at Chart Hills

The Swede protected his overnight lead with a level-par 72, finishing two shots clear of Stephen Gallacher as Lee Westwood charged into third on his debut.

Mikael Lundberg secured his maiden Staysure Legends Tour title at the Staysure English Legends, completing a two-shot victory over Stephen Gallacher at Chart Hills.

The Swede closed with a level-par 72 to finish on 12-under, while Gallacher’s final-round 71 left him alone in second place on 10-under. Adilson da Silva, Lee Westwood and Simon Griffiths shared third at 7-under.

Lundberg had recorded eight top-ten finishes on his way to sixth in the 2025 Order of Merit. He arrived in Kent after finishing runner-up at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship earlier in August and fifth at the Portugal Invitational.

“It was actually more emotional than I thought when I came off the last, when it was finally done,” Lundberg said.

“I was hoping, but I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen. I’m playing well, I have a bunch of seconds and thirds, so I think now once you take the first one, hopefully there’s going to be more.”

Lundberg protects his overnight lead

Lundberg started Sunday three clear after producing a bogey-free 65 in difficult conditions during the second round. A bogey at the 2nd reduced his advantage, but consecutive birdies at the 4th and 5th restored his position.

Gallacher then suffered an unfortunate break at the 6th. His drive struck a sprinkler head in the fairway and bounced into the hazard, leading to a bogey.

“It just landed on the sprinkler in the middle of the fairway and then went in the water,” Gallacher said. “Maybe that’s when you know it’s not your day.”

Lundberg relied on his short game through the closing stretch while managing a back problem that restricted his swing. A six-foot par save at the 15th increased his lead when Gallacher bogeyed, although the Scot responded by hitting his tee shot to within a foot at the par-three 17th.

Lundberg parred the hole and could afford a bogey at the 18th. His victory adds to three DP World Tour titles, earned at the Russian Open in 2005 and 2008 and the 2014 Lyoness Open.

Westwood charges into third

Westwood climbed into a share of third with a 5-under 67 on his Staysure Legends Tour debut. The former World Number One played four front-nine holes in 5-under, including an eagle at the 5th, before bogeys at 10 and 11 slowed his challenge.

He recovered with birdies at the 12th, 16th and 18th, finishing by striking his approach to within inches of the cup.

“It’s been fun. I had a great time and really enjoyed myself,” Westwood said. “I’m going to have a look at my schedule. I’ve really enjoyed it, so maybe I’ll try and get a couple more in.”

The Staysure Legends Tour continues with the NI Legends at Galgorm from September 4–6.
