Stefano Mazzoli Rallies to Win Corales Puntacana Championship

A closing 66 and a 24-foot birdie on the final green carried the Italian to his first PGA Tour title, membership through 2027 and a major rise in the Race to Dubai.

Stefano Mazzoli overturned a four-shot final-round deficit to win the Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday, securing his first PGA Tour title in only his third career start.

The 29-year-old Italian closed with a 6-under 66 at the windswept Corales course, finishing at 20-under 268 and one stroke ahead of Gordon Sargent and Todd Clements.

A 24-foot birdie putt at the par-4 18th sealed the victory for Mazzoli. He won on his tournament debut and accepted PGA Tour membership after the round, giving him playing status through the 2027 season.

“I’m just grateful and honored to win on tour,” Mazzoli said. “That was a dream since I was a kid.”

Mazzoli completes record comeback

Clements had led or shared the lead after each of the opening three rounds, while Mazzoli began Sunday four strokes behind. No previous Corales Puntacana champion had recovered from more than three back entering the final round.

After nine holes, Mazzoli was 4-under 32, having made five birdies on the front nine. Further gains at the par-5 12th and 14th kept him close before he arrived at the final tee one shot behind.

After finding the 18th green, Mazzoli converted the long birdie putt to reach 20-under for the first time all week and establish the clubhouse target.

“Obviously we had a good read and I had my caddie double-check the line,” Mazzoli said. “Then I just tried to hit a putt as committed as possible and it went in perfectly with the last roll, so really pleased.”

Clements struggled over the closing stretch, playing his final six holes in 3 over. A double bogey at the par-4 13th and bogey at the par-4 16th contributed to a closing 71.

“Look, I’m proud of how I played,” Clements said. “Gave it my all, wasn’t meant to be. That’s part of the game.”

Sargent shot 67 but missed a 42-foot birdie attempt at the 18th that would have forced a playoff. The tie for second was his best PGA Tour finish in 31 starts, while Clements also recorded a career-best Tour result.

Mazzoli earns PGA Tour status

Mazzoli was one of 50 DP World Tour players in the co-sanctioned tournament, which was staged opposite the Open Championship. His victory earned him $720,000 from the $4 million purse.

He also collected 585 Race to Dubai points, climbing 88 places from No. 127 to No. 39. Mazzoli became the first Italian to win the Corales Puntacana Championship and the sixth first-time PGA Tour winner this season.

He is also the first non-member to win on Tour since Alex Fitzpatrick at the 2026 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Will Gordon and Ben James shared fourth at 18-under. Gordon closed with a 66 for his first top-10 finish in 20 Tour starts, while James recorded his first top-10 in his fifth event since turning professional.
