Trey Mullinax and Gary Woodland carded 6-under 65s to take a one-shot lead in The CJ Cup in South Carolina.

"Today was a really good day," said Woodland. Got off to a nice start, which was great birdieing the first three, but I drove the golf ball well all day, saw some putts go in and that kind of freed up the ball-striking. Playing from the fairway out here is a huge advantage and I was able to attack a little bit from there as well. All in all, I had all three aspect of driving, ball-striking, putting going on and it was a good day.

"The golf course is in unbelievable shape. It's very firm, though, so you can get the ball rolling. Having the ball with no wind, it's nice to get the golf ball up in the air trying to minimize that rollout once it lands in the fairway. So I played aggressive today, hit a lot of drivers and drove the ball beautifully, which set up the rest of the game."

Fellow Americans Aaron Wise, Wyndham Clark and Kurt Kitayama closed with 66s for a share of third place alongside South Korea's Joo-hyung "Tom" Kim, Australia's Cameron Davis and defending champion Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.
