The Highest Golf Courses in Great Britain

West Monmouthshire Golf Club, founded in 1906 and overlooking the Brecon Beacons in Gwent, is officially (ie according to the Guinness Book of Records) the highest in Britain, rising to 1518 feet above sea level on the 14th tee.

Leadhills Golf Club in Lanarkshire is the highest in Scotland at 1500 feet above sea level, making it the second highest in Britain, a mere 18 feet lower than the record holder.

Among full 18 hole courses, Kington Golf Club in Herefordshire is the highest in England, rising to 1280 feet above sea level.

Substantially higher, but with only 10 holes at present, is Alston Moor Golf Club in Cumbria, which peaks at 1476 feet. Work is however in progress to complete a full 18 holes, and scheduled for completion in summer 2010.
