Scottie Scheffler battled the wind and cold in Augusta to head into the final round of the Masters Championship with the lead at 9-under.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing tomorrow. I'm just going to keep doing my thing, keep my head down and try and execute shots.

"I had a lot of fun out there. I talked about it at the beginning of the week that being in contention is what's fun, so being in the lead is fun. When I'm in the lead, I'm trying to stay in the lead and not really overthink things, just go out there and play golf.

"It should be a great fight tomorrow. Obviously, Cam is a tremendous player and he's got a fantastic short game and he's coming off a huge win at The Players. Both of us are in good form so I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge of playing with him tomorrow."

The American's round could not be called perfect, featuring five bogeys and six birdies to close with a 71, ut it was enough for a three-shot lead over Australian Cameron Smith who closed with a 68, the best round of the day and the only one to break 70.

First-round leader Sungjae Im of South Korea signed for a 71 to move into third place at 4-under.

Ireland's Shane Lowry, playing "the best golf [he's] ever player", closed with a 73 and lies seven shots off the lead at 2-under alongside South African Charl Schwartzel who also shot a 73.

"I think I just have to play my own game and try to finish as best I can," said Lowry. "There's no point in going out there and standing up and hitting a seven iron straight at the flag on the first because that's not going to work around Augusta.

"You just need to play your game-plan and plod my way around the course like I've been doing and see where it leaves me at the end of the day.

"What's possible? There's a 65 out there in good conditions but it just depends what the other guys ahead of me do.
