Americans Brandt Snedeker, Beau Hosller and J.j. Spaun alongside the only non-American in the top-6, Dylan Frittelli, all reached 10-under on Saturday for a share of the lead in the Valero Texas Open.

"It was solid," said Frittelli. "It wasn't my best, but 2 under on this course in tricky conditions and also windy, hot and on the weekend in a PGA TOUR event, not too bad in my books.

"I've not been in contention recently, so I may have a few random thoughts, a few little mental things pop up, so I'm going to anticipate those things and try and work on my mental game tonight.

"But I'm looking forward to getting out there tomorrow. Hopefully the wind blows and it's tough and it's not too easy for the early runners to shoot a nice low score and comes down to the last four, five holes. I feel like I'm playing well enough to win this tournament."

Hossler and Snedeker both shot 5-under 67s but Snedeker stayed bogey-free whole Spaun shot 69 and Frittelli 70.

"It was pretty simple out there for me today," said Snedeker. "I hit it pretty good, drove the ball fantastic and hit a bunch of good iron shots. I'm going to go work on my putting here a little bit, make sure it's ready to go. Missed a few short ones that I don't want to do tomorrow, but all in all I feel really good about where my game is and excited about the challenge tomorrow's going to create.

"It's a golf course I really like, I don't know why. I've played good here several different times it seems like and I love the challenge it creates. I love the fact it's going to be a tough day no matter how good you're playing. Going to miss some greens out there because the greens are small. Even though they're big greens, they play really small. I've always played really well in the wind it seems like, so it would be really nice to kind of go out there and put a good round together."

Scott Stallings looked set to join them at the top but bogeyed the final hole for a 67 and lies one shot back in fifth place.

One shot further back, Matt Kuchar shot a 72 featuring a double bogey at the par-4 9th and two bogeys.

Overnight leader Ryan Palmer failed to card any birdies to offset his five bogeys and signed for a 77 moving down into a share of 21st at 5-under.

First-round leader Russell Knox of Scotland improved on his second-round 76 with a 71 and is T30 at 4-under.
