Since the inaugural LIV Golf season in 2022, golfers from the breakaway league haven’t fared too well in the major championships.
Indeed, only Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau have claimed victory in one of the four main golfing prizes.
Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, making up for his Masters disappointment a few weeks before. While DeChambeau claimed his second U.S. Open title at Pinehurst No.2 in 2024.
With the 2025 PGA Championship nearly upon us, there will be a total of 15 LIV Golfers taking part at Quail Hollow, representing 28% of the 54 players in the league.
The likes of Koepka, DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann will lead the charge. But just who from the Saudi-back series has won the PGA during their careers?
Only three current LIV Golfers have won the PGA Championship
Phil Mickelson – Winner in 2005 and 2021
Mickelson got the major monkey off his back at the 2004 Masters and it didn’t take him long to claim his second major title.
At the 2005 PGA, the American came to the last hole at Baltusrol needing to birdie to win the championship. Thanks to a beautifully judged flop shot from 50ft, he slotted home his putt to win.
16 years later, Mickelson achieved golfing immortality as he became the oldest ever winner of a major championship, winning the 2021 PGA aged 50.
He led Koepka heading into the final round and shot 73 on Sunday. This gave him a two-stroke victory and his sixth major crown just a month shy of his 51st birthday.
Brooks Koepka – Winner in 2018, 2019 and 2023
Between 2017 and 2019, Koepka won four major titles, with two coming at the PGA Championship.
Four rounds in the 60s saw him fend off a spirited challenge from Tiger Woods at Bellerive in 2018.
Less than a year later, Koepka retained his title, becoming the first since Woods in 2007 to do so.
Despite taking a seven-stroke advantage into the final day, the American won by just two shots from Dustin Johnson. It was his fourth major success in less than two years.
In took four years for him to win another major, but the 35-year-old delivered a commanding performance at Oak Hill.
He finished at nine-under par for the week and he enters Quail Hollow looking to win his fourth PGA Championship.
Martin Kaymer – Winner in 2010
Kaymer was certainly a surprise winner at the 2010 PGA Championship. The German had played in just 11 majors before making the trip to Whistling Straits, but it would be a memorable one.
Entering the final day trailing by four shots, Kaymer ended Sunday at 11-under par which was matched by Bubba Watson.
The two entered into a three-hole aggregate playoff to see who would win their first major title. Kaymer was the one who prevailed, finishing the three holes even par to seal the 2010 PGA Championship.
