Nelly Korda signed for a bogey-free 4-under-par 68 to take a three-stroke lead at 8-under at the AIG Women’s Open.
“I’m just trying to stay very present and not think about anything other than one shot at a time,” said the American. “And whatever golf and links golf throws at me, I’m going to take it head on.”
Korda, who has won six LPGA events this season, was the first player to post a clean card.
“I didn’t really take advantage of the calmer conditions on my front nine, the back nine. But I played some really solid golf, and I’m happy with that.”
2023 Champion Lilia Vu of the United States and overnight leader Charley Hull of England carded rounds of 70 and 72 respectively to take a share of second place at 5-under into the weekend.
“I feel like I’m equally hitting it as good, she just holed a few more putts than me today,” Hull said of Korda. “I think Lilia is the one to watch, as well, because when it gets windy she kind of just sticks in there. She’s a good scrambler.”
China’s Ruoning Yin of China shot a 72 to lie in solo fourth place at 4-under.
Six players are tied in fifth place at 3-under, among them South African Ashley Buhai, the 2022 Champion, who eagled the 14th and 16th holes and followed with a birdie on the 18th (her first nine holes) and finished with a 3-under 69 as well as Olympic gold medalist Lydia Ko of New Zealand.
