Byeong Hun An started the day with a share of the lead at the Genesis Championship alongside fellow South Korean Tom Kim.
The lead changed hands throughout the day with six players vying for the title but in the end An and Kim both closed with 67s to finish at 17-under setting up a playoff.
An birdied the first extra hole to win while Kim bogeyed the par-5 18th.
“It’s great, I’ve had a great season obviously, it’s been too long (to win) on the main Tour,” said An.
“All I tried to do is show some great golf in front of the home fans, it’s been a while since I’ve played in front of them.
“It feels amazing, it’s a bit of a shame that Tom had a bit of mess there, but it’s been a great tournament for me, I’ve really enjoyed it.
“There has been a lot of fans out there supporting me and Tom and I feel like we had a great battle today. I just got a little bit lucky to be a winner out there today I think.
“It’s a sweet ending for this year, it’s been a great year. This feels amazing, I’m going enjoy it for a while then I’ve got to get back on it.”
Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia also carded a 67 and finished third at 16-under. He had started the week at 154 in the Race to Dubai rankings with only the top 114 retaining their cards but has now secured his DP World Tour playing rights for next season.
France’s Antoine Rozner double bogeyed the par-5 15th and closed with a 68 to finish fourth at 15-under followed by Italy’s Guido Migliozzi in fifth place at 14-under after closing with a bogey-free 65.
