Tommy Fleetwood held on to the lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in spite of making two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-5 3rd hole on Saturday for a 1-under 69. He leads by one shot at 14-under.

“I’ve been really good off the tee [this week], which is a strong quality around this golf course,” said the Englishman. “Yeah, for the most part, like I mentioned yesterday, it felt like at times you’d get into a nice flow and you feel comfortable with your routine and you’re just standing up and the swings feel good and the ball is going in the direction.

“I think there’s some really demanding shots out there, and then especially when it got a bit windy really on the back nine, and I think some shots turned into really tough shots. I felt like 12 was a really demanding tee shot. 18 was another — just a poor swing really, and it is what it is. It was a poor swing. As soon as it was coming down from the top, I was only going to hit it one way.

“Again, that just shows how tricky the golf course is. I know Justin sort of went aggressive with the driver there and made birdie out of the rough, but it’s so hard to play golf course out of the rough. Even when I did make mistakes, felt like putting the ball in play on the next hole gave me an opportunity to sort of bounce back, and yeah, it’s been good.”

At No. 9, Fleetwood is the highest-ranked player in the FedExCup standings without a victory on the PGA Tour. He has had six runner-up finishes and 42 top-10 finishes, the most of any player without a win on Tour since 1983.

Four of his five top-10s this season have come in Signature Events (T5/The Genesis Invitational, 7th/RBC Heritage, T4/Truist Championship, T2/Travelers Championship); other: T4/Charles Schwab Challenge.

Fleetwood has had one top-10 finish in five prior starts at the FedEx St. Jude Championship (T3/2023). He qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year (seventh total).

In second place at 13-under, England’s Justin Rose fired six birdies and two bogeys for a 67.

The 2018 FedExCup Champion seeks is twelfth PGA Tour win in his 443rd start at the age 45 and his first since the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He holds the most wins of any player from England since 1940 (second most: Nick Faldo, 9 wins).

World No. 1 and reigning FedExCup Champion Scottie Scheffler moved up into third place at 12-under with a third-round 65 featuring six birdies and one bogey.

The American seeks his 18th PGA Tour victory and fifth of the season as well as to become the first back-to-back winner of the FedExCup.

He has finished inside the top 25 in all sixteen starts this season, with a season-high thirteen top-10 finishes (including eleven straight entering this week).

FedExCup Playoffs

Following the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings will qualify for next week’s BMW Championship (the second of three events in the FedExCup Playoffs).
