Steven Alker defeated Y.E. Yang with a seven-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the Rogers Charity Classic on Sunday in Calgary.

The 55-year-old New Zealander closed with a 5-under 65 at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club, reaching 16-under 194 alongside Yang after 54 holes. Returning to the par-5 18th for the playoff, Alker made the decisive birdie to secure his second PGA Tour Champions title of 2026 and the 12th of his career.

Yang forced extra holes with a bogey-free 63. He played the back nine in six-under 29 and birdied the final regulation hole, completing a round that left him level with Alker at the top of the leaderboard.

Alker completes weekend charge

Alker began the tournament with a 2-under 68 and was tied for 27th before shooting a 9-under 61 on Saturday. The round matched the tournament’s 18-hole scoring record, previously recorded by Fred Couples, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Michael Bradley and Ken Tanigawa.

That second round included an eagle at the par-5 11th and a 6-under 29 on the back nine. Alker maintained the momentum in the final round, covering his closing nine holes in 5-under 30 before prevailing at the first extra hole.

The win extended his perfect playoff record on the circuit. Alker beat Jason Caron at the 2025 Cologuard Classic, then defeated Pádraig Harrington at the same event in March 2026. All three of his PGA Tour Champions playoffs have ended in victory.

Alker now has multiple wins in four seasons on the senior circuit. He won four times in 2022, twice in 2023 and added another two victories in 2025 before matching that total this season.

He entered the week 10th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings following six top-10 finishes, including a tie for fourth at the Boeing Classic. The win moved him to fourth, behind Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Harrington.

Yang’s 63 earns runner-up finish

Yang made only two bogeys across the tournament but could not claim his second PGA Tour Champions title. The 54-year-old won the 2024 Stifel Charity Classic by beating Bernhard Langer in a playoff and is now 1-1 in extra holes on the circuit.

The result was his fourth runner-up finish in 124 Champions Tour starts and moved him from 27th to 18th in the Charles Schwab Cup. It came 17 years and one week after his three-shot victory over Tiger Woods at the 2009 PGA Championship.

Jerry Kelly matched Yang’s bogey-free 63 to share third place with Johnson, who closed with a 65 and remains second in the season standings. Defending champion Richard Green tied for fifth alongside Ryan Armour, Retief Goosen and Michael Block.

Alker became the third international winner of the Rogers Charity Classic, following Paraguay’s Carlos Franco in 2016 and Australia’s Green in 2025.

Clark recovered after losing a five-shot advantage, making three closing birdies to secure his third victory of the season and a Presidents Cup place.
