Miyu Yamashita matched the LPGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record on Sunday with a wire-to-wire, nine-shot victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton.

The 4-foot-11 Japanese star closed with a 4-under 66 at Royal Mayfair, finishing at 23-under 257 after converting an eight-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th.

Her total equalled the 257 recorded by Sei Young Kim at the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Wisconsin. Kim finished that event at 31-under, with the difference to par reflecting the respective course configurations.

Yamashita also lowered the CPKC Women’s Open scoring record by five strokes. Jin Young Ko had set the previous mark of 262 at Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario, in 2019.

Yamashita leads from opening round

Yamashita took control with a course-record 62 on Thursday, giving her a one-stroke advantage. A second-round 64 extended the lead to five before a 65 on Saturday moved her six clear entering the final round.

She maintained her advantage over the field on Royal Mayfair’s tree-lined layout, which had been softened by record summer rain. Her final round completed four consecutive scores of 66 or better and pushed the winning margin to a tournament record.

The victory was Yamashita’s fourth on the LPGA Tour, with each coming in a different country. She won the 2025 Women’s British Open in Wales and Maybank Championship in Malaysia before being named rookie of the year, then added the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan in June. She also has 13 victories on the Japan LPGA Tour.

Fellow Japanese player Yuri Yoshida finished second at 14-under after a closing 69. Kim shot 67 to take third, another stroke behind Yoshida.

Canadian teenagers finish inside top-10

Seventeen-year-old Anna Huang led the Canadian contingent, carding a final-round 65 to share fourth place at 12-under. Aphrodite Deng, the 16-year-old amateur who won the 2025 US Girls’ Junior, closed with a 67 and tied for seventh at 11-under.

Two-time CPKC Women’s Open champion Brooke Henderson shot 70 to finish at 7-under. World No. 1 Nelly Korda ended the week at 5- under following a final-round 69.

The tournament also settled the final automatic and ranking places on the United States Solheim Cup team. Allisen Corpuz secured the last automatic position on Friday, while Andrea Lee and Alison Lee qualified through the working ranking on Sunday.

Captain Angela Stanford is due to announce her three selections on Monday. The United States will face Europe in the Netherlands from Sept. 11 to 13.

Alker converted a 7-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole in Calgary, completing a weekend charge that lifted him to fourth in the Charles Schwab Cup.
