Korean Sungjae Im fired six birdies and two bogeys to close with a 4-under 67 and take a share of the lead at 6-under on home soil at the Genesis Championship.

“I think I was playing much better overall today,” said Im. “I feel that today I was very consistent. Looking back at my game, I think I was aggressive when I needed to be and I played safe when I needed to.

“When I could create birdie opportunities, I was really going for it. On pin locations where I felt I needed to play safe, I did, and I was able to make par on those holes. My strategy was really good today.

“When we come to Korea we have all these fans who come out and cheer and support us. That really gives you the boost you need. When I come here, I really have a good time.”

Compatriots Minhyuk Song and Junghwan Lee also joined the tie at the top of the leaderboard with rounds of 67 (two bogeys) and 65 (one bogey) respectively.

Overnight co-leader Haotong Li of China retained his share of the lead having made four bogeys for a 71.

England’s Alex Fitzpatrick made one bogey and five birdies for a 67 and his share of the lead.

Spain’s Nacho Elvira eagled the par-5 5th and made two bogeys for a 68 while France’s Tom Vaillant made three bogeys and New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier fired four birdies and two bogeys for 69s to join them at the top.

Overnight co-leader MK Kim of South Korea fired one birdie and two bogeys to close with a 1-over 72 and moved down into a six-way tie for 9th place at 5-under.
