South African Jayden Schaper started the day two shots behind the lead and closed with a bogey-free, 8-under 64 featuring an eagle at the par-5 5th to set the clubhouse target at 22-under at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

Overnight leader Ryan Gerard of the United States shot a bogey-free 66 to join him and set up a playoff.

Both players parred the first extra hole at the par-5 18th but while Gerard also parred the second Schaper made an eagle to win.

This was the second consecutive DP World Tour title for Schaper following last week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship. He also finished second at the Nedbank Golf Challenge two weeks ago.

“The last three weeks have been incredible, said Schaper. “I don’t even know what to say. That’s just such an insane way to finish a tournament.

“It’s been such a great week, such an awesome place, the support, the golf course. From start to finish. I could not have asked for anything better. Christmas is going to be good this year, and New Year. It’s just unreal.

“I wait five years for the first [title] and then the following week [to get the second] is so cool.”

Gerard, while disappointed he lost, has achieved his goal of moving inside the top-50 on the on the Official World Golf Ranking and securing his Masters invite for next year.

South African Casey Jarvis who shared the overnight lead made three bogeys and closed with a 71 to finish third at 17-under followed one shot further behind by Norway’s Andreas Halvorsen who carded a bogey-free 66.

England’s John Parry made one bogey for a 68 and a share of fifth place at 15-under alongside South African Zander Lombard who recorded a 62 featuring an eagle at the par-5 5th and one bogey.
