Cameron Young was 5-under par through thirteen holes before carding his only bogey of the day on the par-4 14th. He closed with a 5-under 67 to increase his Cadillac Championship lead at 13-under.
He holds a five-stroke lead, setting the largest 36-hole lead at Trump National Doral (previous: four shot lead, Lee Trevino/1973 Doral-Eastern Open/Won).
The American leads the field in Birdies (14), Scrambling (12 of 13) and Strokes Gained: Putting (5.500) after the second round.
“I think I managed misses really well, I putted really well. I feel like I just took advantage of the opportunities I had. I didn’t hit it terrible but I just wasn’t consistently in position all day, I didn’t drive it amazing. I think that’s kind of what I would like to do better tomorrow,” said Young.
“I think you have to have an understanding out here that you’re going to get in some difficult places, and yeah, thankfully I’ve dealt with that really well. I feel like I’ve kind of kept myself in a space where I’m putting well, so I know if I do hit a few good shots I’m going to make some birdies. That’s kind of the mentality I’ll try to keep the next few days. If I can just stack a few more good shots I feel like I’ll have more chances and that will be a good thing out there.”
This is his third 36-hole lead/co-lead on the PGA Tour in stroke-play events (2025 Wyndham Championship/Won, 2023 John Deere Classic/finished T6) and he is 1-for-2 to date in converting to victory.
Young is making his ninth start of the season and has had four top-10 finishes: T7/The Genesis Invitational, T3/Arnold Palmer Invitational, Won/The Players Championship, T3/Masters Tournament.
Canada’s Nick Taylor carded a second-round 70, highlighted by a chip-in eagle at the 8th from 37 feet 11 inches and one bogey and moved into T2 at 8-under. His best finish in eleven starts on Tour this season was a T13 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
American Jordan Spieth signed for a 71 having made four birdies and three bogeys to move into T20. His last top-10 finish on Tour was 16 starts ago at the 2025 Memorial Tournament (T7). He is one of 18 have players in the field that previously played a Tour event held at Trump National Doral (2014-2016).
Also tied in second place following a 71, compatriot Alex Smalley made five birdies and four bogeys. He qualified this week due to his position in the Aon Swing 5 (No. 4) after earning his third runner-up finish on Tour at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with partner Hayden Springer).
American Gary Woodland eagled the par-5 first hole and made five birdies and four bogeys for a 69 and solo fifth place at 7-under. This marks the second time in his PGA Tour career he has made eagle on the opening hole of a round (other: R2/Hole 1/2012 WGC – Cadillac Championship).
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a bogey-free 67, his 79th bogey-free round (most on Tour since 2019) and is tied in 6th place at 6-under. The American has had 29 straight top-25 finishes on Tour (last finish outside the top 25: 2024 BMW Championship/T33).
Also part of the six-way tie for sixth is England’s Alex Fitzpatrick who shot a bogey-free 66, one shy of his career-low 18-hole score (65/R3/2023 Open Championship/finished T17). The 27-year-old earned his first Tour victory at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with brother and World No. 3 Matt Fitzpatrick) in his 11th start on Tour.
