Back in April, European Ryder Cup organisers announced their new pricing for tickets at the 2027 event. Now, there’s certainly credit due for the announcement coming this far in advance, so that it didn’t look like the organisers were springing price hikes all of a sudden on avid fans.
However, the record prices certainly didn’t go down well in the press. It didn’t hurt ticket sales, as it goes, but it wasn’t a move that will help the 2027 Ryder Cup to shine. What might help is that organisers have found a new way to offer more possibilities to get to the side of the greens and fairways without cost.
Winning back some favour
The order of events for Ryder Cup ticketing wasn’t exactly the finest. People tend to be more favourable towards offerings that increase accessibility from the outset. As the organisers have said, the bump has been in line with other major global sporting events. While fans across Ireland got first dibs on the tickets being sold, those more local didn’t have to pay.
As has been covered in the Irish Independent report, residents of Adare have been informed that they can claim free tickets to the Ryder Cup. As the event is taking place at Adare Manor golf course, it’s a courteous move from the organisers. Tickets are limited, though, and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Despite the headlines around ticket prices, Ryder Cup organisers have seen their tickets fly off the shelves and, even better, locals are being given a shot at free access. It’ll help the golfing centrepiece to earn back some favour.
