Ireland has begun its one-year countdown to the 2027 Ryder Cup, when Adare Manor in County Limerick will welcome Europe and the United States from 13–19 September.
The match will be the first Ryder Cup staged in Ireland since Europe defeated the United States 18½–9½ at The K Club in 2006. Thousands of travelling supporters are expected for the event.
Major Events Build Towards Adare Manor
The countdown follows The Open’s return to Royal Portrush in 2025 and comes during a busy period for tournament golf in Ireland.
The KPMG Women’s Irish Open was held on the Palmer South Course at The K Club from 27–30 August. Attention then moved west to Lahinch Golf Club, which was hosting the Walker Cup for the first time this week.
Tickets for both Walker Cup days sold out, with 8,000 spectators expected at the County Clare links each day. Great Britain and Ireland entered Sunday with a 6½–5½ lead over the United States following a late rally in the opening singles session.
The Amgen Irish Open follows from 10–13 September at Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg. The County Clare course, redesigned by Martin Hawtree after storm damage in 2014, will stage the DP World Tour event for the first time. Our course review of Doonbeg examines the routing and its exposed Atlantic setting.
Tourism Ireland Targets Visiting Golfers
Tourism Ireland is using the Ryder Cup countdown to promote the island’s links, parkland courses and hospitality to international golfers.
“The Ryder Cup is a unique opportunity to inspire golfers from around the globe to experience everything that makes Ireland such a special place to play golf,” Tourism Ireland chief executive Alice Mansergh said.
Mansergh said golf remained a strategic priority because it is the world’s largest sports-related travel market. Tourism Ireland is working with Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland to promote golf trips extending beyond the host venue, including accommodation, food, pubs and off-course experiences.
Ireland’s options range from championship venues such as Portmarnock and Royal County Down to courses including Ardglass and Carne. Our recent guide to golf in Ireland and Northern Ireland covers that wider destination appeal.
Europe’s Leadership Team Takes Shape
Europe will arrive at Adare Manor seeking a third consecutive Ryder Cup victory under Luke Donald. The captain has already appointed brothers Edoardo and Francesco Molinari to his backroom staff.
Francesco will serve as vice-captain for a third successive match after helping Donald’s teams win in Rome in 2023 and New York in 2025. His appointment for Adare Manor was confirmed in June.
Irish players have also shaped Ryder Cup history, from Christy O’Connor Jr’s two-iron at The Belfry to Paul McGinley’s winning putt in 2002. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry now lead the country’s representation in the men’s professional game as the countdown moves into its final year.
