Entries set to pour in for Race to Rioja

The Race to Rioja is now on for European club golfers as they look to cut their handicaps and qualify for the grand final of Clubs to Hire’s biennial event in Spain.

The event is organised by the Dublin-based golf club rental company Clubs to Hire, and golfers looking to qualify for the grand final in Rioja must reduce their handicap by 10 per cent before the Sunday, July 12, 2020, deadline to be in with a chance.

Registration is now open for the popular competition – which had more than 3,000 entries in its Race to Quinta do Lago, Portugal, in 2018 – and is open to any golfer who holds an official and regulated golfing union (or similar) handicap.

This year’s final will take place in one of northern Spain’s popular wine regions, Rioja, on Thursday, August 27, 2020, and anyone who enters and meets the required handicap reduction will be entered into the draw for one of the 16 places up for grabs.

The prize includes 18 holes at Logroño Golf Club, free accommodation for one night, a VIP visit to a top local winery, a goody bag courtesy of Clubs to Hire, a gala dinner and prizegiving, as well as use of the practice range and complimentary buggies.

Clubs to Hire founder Tony Judge said: “Every year, golfers of all levels set themselves handicap targets for the golfing season. We are delighted that we can reward 16 dedicated golfers who achieve a 10 per cent reduction in their handicap with this fantastic trip to an amazing part of the world.

“And, while 10 per cent may sound relatively straightforward for the keen golfer, it’s a lot harder than it seems, with only 110 golfers out of 3,000 entries managing it last time! We are looking forward to seeing how many can do it this year and hopefully seeing them in beautiful Rioja in August.

“The region is synonymous with wine, but in recent years its golf product has really evolved and we were very impressed when we recently visited some of the top courses. They are an excellent test and are in fantastic condition.”

It now handles more than 300,000 annual visits to its website and more than 60,000 bookings for rental clubs at 25 locations worldwide, including popular golfing regions in the USA, Thailand, Australia, South Africa and five countries across the Mediterranean.

Clubs are available for left or right-handed men or women and can either be waiting at the airport or delivered directly to the golfer’s hotel. Clients can also add shoe rental, balls, tees and hats to their order.
