Sam Burns produced eight birdies in a bogey-free round for an 8-under 63 to take a share of the lead at 12-under heading into the weekend in the Valspar Championship.

“For me it’s just sticking to what I’ve been doing, having a good game plan going into the day. I know over the weekend there will be some challenges, and I’m excited for the opportunity.”

Keegan Bradley started his round with a two shot lead and started well on the back nine with two birdies. He bogeyed the par-4 12th and made birdies at the 1st and 6th holes before closing with an eagle at the par-4 9th, holing out from 100 yards to close with a 66.

“I turned a good day into a great day,” said Bradley. “Man, it was a fun day. And what a way to finish. It was a blast.”

“You can’t see the green from down there, so you have to wait for the crowd’s reaction,” he said of his eagle. “And when everyone puts their arms up, normally that means it goes in. So another bonus of having fans out here. It makes it a lot more exciting for everybody.”

Behind them at 8-under are Lucas Glover (65), Charley Hoffman (66) and Max Homa (68).

Homa, who last won at Riviera two months ago, is happy with all aspects of his game. His putting has been particularly good including sinking five putts of 25 feet or longer.

“I think I’m just better at golf now.”
