First round leader Tom Hoge (USA) is back in a tie for the lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after carding a bogey-free 68 to reach 14-under at Spyglass Hill on Saturday.
Pebble Beach 2022 R3
“I guess first off I just love being at Spyglass I always enjoy playing there. It’s usually the first nine holes I go play is the back nine at Spyglass when I show up here. But it’s a hard golf course, I knew it was going to be a challenge today that some of the leaders had the easier golf courses, so I had to make some birdies to keep pace there.”
“My game feels good, I was just in the final group in Palm Springs a couple weeks ago, so that helps being in that situation. I’ve just, my goal coming into the year was try to put myself in this position a little bit more and here we are another chance.
“So just got to go out and just play well again. I certainly felt a lot more comfortable in Palm Springs being there and played well down the stretch so hopefully that can carry forward here.”

Andrew Putnam (USA) had a tricky front nine at Pebble Beach (having started on the 10th) including a double bogey at the par-4 13th and closed with a 68 for his share of the lead.
“It was pretty ugly that first nine,” said Putnam. “You know, it was a really bad start, a 3-putt, kind of a stupid mistake and then kind of got a bad break, ball got kind of buried up in a lip. So it can happen out here.
“And kind of kept it in play and started hitting some good shots and the putter started working pretty good on that front side. I had five or six birdies in a row and so that got me back in the tournament.”

Beau Hossler (USA), also playing Pebble Beach, went bogey-free with a 65 to join the top of the leaderboard.
“Pebble can give and take so quickly, right? I was glad to be on the receiving end today,” said Hossler. “I hit it well, played really conservatively, frankly, as even though it might not look like it and was fortunate to not have any misses really get me in significant trouble. It was as fairly stress free as you can be around here. I think I hit obviously a lot of greens and when I did miss the greens it was in a pretty decent spot.
“So the margins are thin at Pebble, greens are small and they’re getting pretty firm. So I was lucky to give myself some good looks today and I rolled the putter beautifully.”
Jordan Spieth (USA) shot a career-low 63 at Pebble beach to move up from ten shots behind overnight leader Power to fourth place one-shot behind the leaders, joining Patrick Cantlay (USA, 68) and a bogey-free Joel Dahmen (USA, 66).

Pebble Beach 2022 R3
Spieth’s round including a hair-raising moment when his tee shot at the 8th almost went over the edge of a 60-foot cliff leaving him with a difficult lie.
“I was asking the cameraman behind if it went into the water and the marshal said it went in the hazard. The cameraman said it’s maybe playable but it’s past the hazard line and I know obviously what that means.
“I didn’t realize the severity until I got up to it. As I walked up to it I felt myself like I was walking and then I started walking like this (Indicating), you know like falling back walking, just to get to the edge.
“And then it was like — it’s so weird because if you can normally see the ball, like I never had a situation where you can see a ball, get a swing on it, but you’re not going to play it. So it was just kind of weird because it was like, Well if I can get a swing on it and I can hit it then why would I take a drop? Like just whenever, you’re never over, I guess I saw a 65-foot cliff. So it’s an unusual situation, normally if you’re walking into a hazard, you see a ball, you hit it out.”

“Michael hated it. He tried to talk me out of it three times. I don’t blame him, looking back. I’m just glad I made the par to make it worth it, because I don’t think I would have made par with a drop, but if I made bogey it would have really not been worth it.
“But yeah, I mean it was, I was more like, it was more of a nervous and adrenaline hitting it and then when I got to the green as I was walking there it was more of like an anxiety feeling afterwards, luckily it wasn’t before. But, yeah, I mean if I had, I think I’ll hit less club tomorrow.”
Power (IRE) made six bogeys at Monterey Peninsula and closed with a 74, moving down to seventh place at 13-under.
