Scheffler was runner-up last year against Billy Horschel, whom he beat this year in the Round of 16, and is happy to have put that episode behind him.

“I really don’t know how to describe the emotion. I’ve thought about winning this tournament ever since last year. It left kind of a poor taste in my mouth getting so close and ultimately coming up short.
“So it feels really good to finish the job this time around.”

This first World Golf Championship is also his first DP World Tour victory just 42 days after winning his first PGA Tour title at the WM Phoenix Open beating Tiger Woods’ record by 210 days. He also won the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this month.
Scheffler, who started the week number 5 in the Official World Rankings, now moves up four places to number 1, displacing Jon Rahm. He is the sixth youngerst Number 1 at the age of 25.
“I never really got that far in my dreams. I never made it that far. I just love playing golf and I love competing and I’m just happy to be out here.
“I don’t feel like Number One in the world. I feel like the same guy I was four months ago and I hope that doesn’t change.
“Life is good. Life has been good to me for the past few years. I’m just really pleased with today’s results and I just couldn’t be happier.”
