Thomas Detry carded a second round of 67 on Friday morning to reach 10-under and take the clubhouse lead in the Sanderson Farms Championship.

The Belgian, playing in the event through the Korn Ferry Tour, was pleased with his putting, including three birdie putts of 20 feet of longer.

“Putting has been really nice. I’ve made only 240 feet of putts the last two days, so that helps. Although I’ve missed a couple short ones, but that doesn’t matter. I can’t complain about the putter. It’s been really good. I drove it beautifully well yesterday. Today I struggled a little bit. Going to go to the range now and work on that for a little bit.”

Mackenzie Hughes closed with back-to-back birdies for a bogey-free 63 to join Detry in the lead.

“Much better than yesterday,” said the Canadian. “Short game was still good. I drove it a lot better. I had a lot more opportunities. I missed a couple short ones on par-5s, but kind of get a little bit across the grain with a little bit of wind, it kind of can be tricky, especially on some of the downgrain putts.

“The rough can be very penal and make you look very silly. Unfortunately, I had all my woods broken a couple weeks ago on a flight from LaGuardia back to Knoxville, so this is a new set, so so far, so good, I think. Driver was a lot better today than yesterday, and hopefully we’ll continue to do that for two more days.”

Austrian Sepp Straka finished strong with five birdies on the back nine for a 66 that placed him in solo third place at 9-under.

“I was hitting it right on the first seven or so holes and figured a little something out with the driver and started hitting it really good actually on the back nine. Was able to take advantage of it.”

Tied in fourth at 8-under are Americans Mark Hubbard (69) and Scott Stallings (67) alongside South Africa’s Garrick Higgo (66).
