Japan’s Kota Kaneko fired five birdies and one bogey before making a 10-foot putt for birdie at the 18th for his third consecutive 65 to take the Austrian Alpine Open lead at 15-under.

Kaneko’s best finish on Tour so far was runner-up at last week’s Soudal Open in Belgium. He holds the 54-hole lead for the first time on Tour in just his 12th DP World Tour appearance.

“I’ve been putting really well and also my tee shots have been great. I’ve given myself a lot of chances and I took advantage of those,” said Kameko.

“The golf course in Turkey and also Belgium really suits me. I like it here in Austria too and I feel confident off the tee at the moment.

Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia carded a bogey-free 63, the lowest round of the day, and lies in second place at 14-under.

“I can’t say much, it was really solid from the get go,” said Gouveia. “Started off with four birdies, surprised by the putt on three, but that just kept me going. I was playing solid, a lot of wedge shots, holed some nice putts and just a phenomenal day.”

18-hole leader Yanhan Zhou of China lies in third place at 13-under one ahead of the Netherlands’ Joost Luiten after both recorded bogey-free 65s.

England’s Andrew Johnston, who held the overnight lead, made five birdies and five bogeys for a 70 and a share of the six-way tie for fifth place at 11-under alongside compatriot Joe Dean who made one bogey and closed with a 66.
