Barbasol Championship 2021 R1
July 15-18
Keene Trace Golf Club, Nicholasville, Kentucky
$3,500,000
Round 2, Round 3, Round 4

Brian Stuard signed for an 8-under 64 on Thursday to take the clubhouse lead in the Barbasol Championship.

Play was suspended twice due to thunder and lightning at Keene Trace Golf Club and thirty players were still on the course when play was eventually called due to darkness.

Stuard's single bogey of the day came on the par-4 18th to make the turn in 33 followed by five more birdies to return in 31.

“I felt like my iron play was nice today. I didn't think I drove it well, but there's not a lot of rough so you can kind of attack from anywhere, so that's what I was able to do.”

Stuard has one PGA Tour win under his belt, at the 2016 rain-shortened Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He has had three top-20 results so far this season, T3 at the Safeway Open, T8 at last week's John Deere Classic, and T16 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“It was a good start, but in all honesty, it doesn't really mean much,” said Stuard. “I need three more good rounds to put myself in contention, I guess. It's nice to start off well. I need three more, so just got to keep going.”

A group of twelve players are one shot behind the leader at 7-under with Patrick Rodgers, Stephen Stallings Jr. and Will Grimmer yet to finish their rounds.

Also among the twelve is Luke List, who came joint fourth last week in Illinois. He made three birdies, an eagle at the par-4 6th and a single bogey on the front nine to make the turn in 32 then made four more birdies to briefly join Stuard in the lead after the par-4 17th but found the water at 18 and closed with another bogey.

“Long day,” said List. “There's birdies to be made on this golf course, so I kind of knew that I had to be aggressive out there and I was fortunate to be able to make some birdies and one eagle. Had a few bogeys, but overall I played well.”

Defending champion Jim Herman closed with a 67 and is T21.
