Lucas Herbert fired four birdies and two bogeys on Sunday to close with a 69 on another difficult day at Port Royal. He won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship by one shot at 15-under 269.

The Australian who also won on the European Tour earlier this year will now head to the Masters for the first time next year.

The anticipated wind and rain which caused officials to move up tee times once again caused play to be suspended for a time and played havoc with the scores.

Bermuda Championship 2021 R4

"It was a tricky one," said Herbert. "You sort of had to be a little bit fluid with it depending on the conditions. I think early it was probably favorable to do some scoring. I think once we got to about six or seven, that was when the wind really picked up.

"From then on it was probably more of a survival mode, just try and get yourself into position off the tee and in the fairway hopefully and in the middle of the greens and just, you know, try not to put too much pressure on the short ga me because, yeah, it was just obviously not easy out there."

Bermuda Championship 2021 R4

American Patrick Reed played a final round 65 to finish tied for second place at 14-under alongside New Zealand's Danny Lee, who closed with a 71, followed by American Patrick Rodgers (70) in solo fourth place at 13-under.

"Ever since I got back from being sick [from bilateral pneumonia in August], it just seemed like the offense wasn't quite there," said Reed. "I wasn't making enough birdies and when that happens, one loose swing here or there, it turns around, try to salvage a mediocre round. This week I definitely produced enough offense, but I need to take away some of the careless errors."

Bermuda Championship 2021 R4

Overnight leader Taylor Pendrith of Canada, who started the day with a three-shot lead, made three consecutive bogeys from the 6th and double bogeyed the par-5 17th to close with a 76 and tied for fifth place at 12-under. Pendrith, who got married two weeks ago, was playing in his fourth tournament on the PGA Tour.

"Lots of positives. Obviously it's my best finish out here. It was a tough Sunday, which I guess I'll learn a lot from that, but to have a good week was great. I really hadn't played much golf in the last two weeks, I think maybe twice, and I didn't see the golf course until Thursday, so pretty pleased overall.

Bermuda Championship 2021 R4

Tie alongside Pendrith is American Scott Stallings who signed for a brilliant bogey-free 62.

"Today was just kind of try to have the best attitude you possibly can and go out there and try to hit it as solid as you can because anything can happen. The range of emotions and weather conditions that we dealt with in the last, however long that was, was kind of all over the place. You were hitting good shots that ended up in bad places and bad shots ended up in good places, that's just kind of the way the day was. Keep moving forward. Obviously to shoot what I did was a huge bonus, but was happy with the way I kind of competed all week."
