Nasa Hataoka had a harder time on the course on Friday than in her opening round but still managed a 69 to keep the lead of the Marathon LPGA Classic at 12-under.

Marathon Classic 2021 R2

In contrast to her bogey-free 61 on Thursday, Hataoka made four in the second round balanced by six birdies, four of them back-to-back from the 14th. She also missed five greens after hitting all 18 on Thursday.

“I did kind of look (at the leaderboard) because we kind of had to wait along the way. I was more trying to concentrate on my round. ”

“My shots were not as good as yesterday. Didn't have that many chances. I had a lot of problems, but I was able to fix that for the last part and bring it back up. ”

This marks the fourth time in Hataoka's career she has held the lead through 36 holes, most recently at the 2020 ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Marathon Classic 2021 R2

Mina Harigae carded another bogey-free 66 to head into the weekend in second place at 10-under having played the best 36 holes of her 12-year Tour career.

"I feel really confident, comfortable with all aspects of my game,” said Harigae. “Just everything just kind of feels solid and everything is kind of flowing together, so it feels really good. ”

Marathon Classic 2021 R2

Alison Lee and Elizabeth Szokol are tied for third at 9-under after both recorded rounds of 67-66.

Esther Henseleit, who is coming off two straight top-15 finishes, carded a 64 and sits in a tie for fifth at 8-under alongside Jennifer Kupcho (65), Gerina Piller (65), Lauren Stephenson (69) and Chella Choi (66).

Marathon Classic 2021 R2

Defending champion Danielle Kang signed for a 65 to tie for tenth at 7-under alongside five other players.

11-year veteran Tiffany Joh announced before the tournament that she would retire from full-time competition after the event and closed with a 1-over 73 to miss the cut at 3-over.
