Set Up Notes

Tees, Fairways and Rough

Tees cut at 9mm. Fairways cut at 11mm.
First cut rough (approximate width 2 metres) cut at 55mm just prior to Championship. Uncut species rich native rough beyond.

Greens

The greens are fescue bent blend. Information on green speed and firmness will be provided before the first tee time during morning
course preparation.

Approaches/Surrounds

Approaches/surrounds cut at 8mm.

Course Manager – Sean McLean. Royal Birkdale has a permanent greenstaff of 17. For The Open, the total greenstaff is 47. This includes
10 greenkeepers from other Open venues, one international greenkeeper invited from one of The R&A’s overseas regions, three BIGGA
greenkeepers from The R&A Championship Agronomy Programme, and others from various clubs.
There are 104 bunkers on the course.
