The Ping G brand has been one of the most enduring in golf and for almost 20 years it has had a well-deserved reputation for delivering on what it promises. In independent testing Ping clubs regularly come near the top.
It is understandable then that a range as popular as the G425 has taken three years to replace while Ping has joined the carbon revolution in its own, under-stated way with the launch of the G430, which are available to buy on January 27th.
The new driver will understandably take centre stage. This is partly due to models recently unveiled by its big rivals and the rapid advancements in product development we have witnessed since the G425 entered the marketplace.
It does feel like Ping has been a tad slow to the party but some things are worth waiting for and the G430 range certainly fits into that category.

“The combined distance gains throughout the entire G430 family are like nothing we’ve seen from one generation of clubs to the next,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President.
“Our approach with G430 has been to find more speed and deliver it in a way that contributes to lower scores and more enjoyment on the course. That includes providing a level of forgiveness that remains unequalled.
“The powerful combination of distance and forgiveness wins out when golfers are properly fitted. We see that every day in our research and we’re excited to get the G430 into the hands of golfers so they can see the same benefits.”
The impassioned Ping boss’ bold claims, especially around forgiveness, require a lot of backing up, so it will be interesting to see how the G430 compares across the drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons as testing is done.
The G430 family consists of:
• Three driver models (MAX, LST, SFT),
• Two fairway-wood designs in multiple lofts (MAX, SFT)
• Six hybrid choices
• An iron set (4-9, PW, 45.5°, 50°, 54°, 58°).
• Plus a complete HL (High Launch) set option for those with slower swing speeds.
For all the changes built into the G430, what jumps out at you straight away, and especially with the new driver, is they look unmistakably Ping.
The sharp angles and various ridges, particularly evident on the sole of the driver, are very distinct to the Arizona-based company’s woods and for Ping diehards there will be plenty of comfort to be taken in this familiarity.
