Steward Cink shot a second 63 to take the lead heading into the weekend at the RBC Heritage.

Cink's 6-under 126 for 36-holes betters Jack Nicklaus' and Phil Mickelson's 129 in 1975 and 2002.

“It doesn't feel all that special, to be honest with you,” said Cink. “We just kind of worked our game plan.”

RBC Heritage 2021 R2

He credits his performance to good preparation and following through on the strategy he and son Reagan, his caddie, collaborate on ahead of tournaments

“We call it bludgeoning and we're just bludgeoning that plan almost to death. When you manage yourself around a course like that and execute, the golf courses yield.”

RBC Heritage 2021 R2

Cink has won twice at Harbour Town (2000, 2004) but has not finished in the top 20 there in a decade. The last time he led after 36 holes was at the Travelers Championship in 2008.

He has been on form recently, winning at the Safeway Open for the first time in eleven years and has finished in the top-20 five times since including a tie for 12th at the Masters last week.

Corey Conners and Emiliano Grillo both shot 64s and lie five and six shots behind Cink respectively.

“Giving myself lots of chances and was really nice to see some go in,” said Conners. “Hopefully, can keep that up going into the weekend.”
