Stewart Cink closed with a 70 for a final 19-under 265 to win the RBC Heritage for a third time beating Harold Varner III and Emiliano Grillo by four shots.

“I don't even know if I have the words,” said Cink.

After setting tournament records for the 36- and 54-hole records, making 17 birdies and two eagles along the way, Cink only made two birdies on Sunday and felt he fought the course more than the field.

“I really felt I had the kind of stuff that was going to be very hard to beat,” he said.

This was the 47-year-old's second win this season. His first, at the Safeway Open in September, broke an eleven year title drought. Only he and Bryson DeChambeau have had multiple wins this season. Cink has also had four other top-20 finishes including a tie for 12th last week at the Masters.

Cink is the fourth player to win twice in the same PGA Tour season after turning 47, following Sam Snead, Julius Boros and Kenny Perry.

Cink has earned an exemption into the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in June which the former champion hasn't played in since 2017.

Varner's final 66 gave him the highest finish of his career. The 30-year-old viewed Cink's win in a positive light.

“He's old and he's kicking everyone's (butt),” said Varner. “Yeah, it inspires me. It inspires me to know that I can play golf for a long time.”

World number 1 Dustin Johnson closed with his best round of the tournament, a 66, to finished T13 at 10-under.

“I just feel like I made way too many mistakes,” he said. “Around here, you make mistakes, they penalize you pretty big.”
