Honda Classic 2021 R2
March 11-14
PGA National (Champion), Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
$7,000,000
Round 1, Round 3, Round 4

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

Aaron Wise took his first PGA 36-hole lead on Friday with a second 6-under 64 at The Honda Classic. His 128 total is the lowest 36-hole score since the tournament moved to PGA National fifteen years ago but didn't come without a struggle with three bogeys, five birdies and two eagles at the par-5s 3rd and 18th.

"It's two great rounds of golf and I love that, and I love that I'm playing good. But this place can get to you pretty quick and there's a lot of golf left ahead and a lot of trouble out there."

First-round leader Matt Jones (70) is tied for second at 9-under with Brandon Hagy (62), who found out he was playing as an alternate at the last minute.

"It's been kind of a funny week," said Hagy. "I was in Scottsdale on Tuesday afternoon and get a flight last minute, fly out Tuesday, don't play practice rounds. I'm feeling like I'm playing on a little bit of house money, so I kept it pretty loose out there."

Honda Classic 2021 R2

Until this year, there had never been more than seven rounds of 64 or lower in The Honda at PGA National, there have been eight so far this week.

"It felt like an easier day scoring," Cink said (64). "I played better, but it just felt like the course was more reasonable today than it was yesterday. This course is always hard."

Lee Westwood, runner-up in the last two tournaments, came to the end of his endurance and missed the cut with a 78. The 47-year-old can now recharge before the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play next week.

โ€œMy body was telling me last Sunday (at The Players), I didn't swing it as well Sunday last week. I was starting to get tired. Three weeks in a row with not really a day off. So yeah, I am 48 in a month, and I can't keep doing it like the 20-year-olds do it.โ€
