India's Anirban Lahiri held a one-shot lead at 9-under with seven holes left to play when round 3 was suspended due to darkness after a long day at The Players Championship.

"It's been great. Obviously nice to catch the good side of the draw to start. I think to be honest, going to bed last night I was a bit scared how cold it was going to be. I'm not used to playing temperatures sub-40, and I did struggle a little bit when I came out, but it was nice to just get back into a good process and a good rhythm.

"Made a lot of good swings today, just kept it in front of me, made good decisions. Yeah, I mean, it was a great day."

Americans Tom Hoge and Harold Varner III are tied at 8-under after 9 holes followed by compatriot Sam Burns, Colombian Sebastián Muñoz and Englishman Paul Casey at 7-under.

Burns had earlier taken a share of the lead alongside Hoge after completion of the second round, closing with a 75-foot eagle putt and an 18-foot par.

Conditions on the course continue to be difficult following the heavy rain and strong wind with temperatures of 35°F (1.6°C) in the morning.

"You always want to play well no matter the conditions," said Burns. "A lot of it is just out of your control. There's only so much you can control out there, and weather is not one of them."

Players Championship 2022 R2

Ireland's Shane Lowry aced the 17th and currently lies in T11 at 5-under.

American Collin Morikawa (+4), Patrick Cantlay (+5) and Xander Schauffele (+7) were among the casualties and failed to make the cut.
