"[Staying calm is] something I've been working on, something I've been really going through in my life, is just trying to relax a little bit, take everything as it comes. If I play great, awesome. If I don't play great, awesome. It's just kind of where I've been at in my life and I'm excited to play great and it was really fun to play great, but everything's going to be all right.

"I've just been getting in my own way for a long time. So this is the first kind of week that I've kind of let the chips fall where they may, so to speak, whether it be playing not so great or playing awesome, and it's just been nice to be very free and very kind of carefree and just trying to do the best I can. That's all I can do."

The American tied the Copperhead course record at Innisbrook Resort set by Padraig Harrington in 2012 and set a new 36-hole tournament record.

Canada's Adam Hadwin, the only non-American in the top-5, shot a 66 to move into second place after starting the day in a four-way tie for the lead.

Justin Thomas signed for a 66 in spite of a double bogey at the par-4 7th to move into solo fifth place at 10-under.

David Lipsky and Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas both shared the overnight lead, both closed with 71s and moved down into a share of 10th place.
