Which LIV Golfers have won the U.S. Open?

Several LIV Golfers have won the U.S. Open during their careers

The third major championship of the year gets underway in a matter of weeks and several LIV Golfers will be playing in the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

After Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed led the way at the Masters, with the former along with Jon Rahm challenging deep into the PGA Championship last month, who will stake a claim for U.S. Open glory?

The Spaniard and two-time winner of the trophy, DeChambeau, headline the LIV contingent.

Elsewhere, Richard Bland, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman will also tee it up at Oakmont next week.

A LIV Golfer hasn’t won a major title since DeChambeau won this tournament in 2024.

Just who from the breakaway circuit has claimed a U.S. Open trophy during their careers, however?

Six LIV Golfers have won the U.S. Open

Graeme McDowell – 2010 winner

McDowell’s triumph at Pebble Beach 15 years ago ushered in a stunning era for Northern Irish golf. A year later, Rory McIlroy won the same tournament, while Darren Clarke prevailed at the 2011 Open.

This victory in California turned out to be McDowell’s only major title, but what a week it was for the Irishman.

Martin Kaymer – 2014 winner

Kaymer has finished in the top ten of the U.S. Open just twice across 16 appearances. One was a T8 finish in 2010, while in 2014, he won the title after a dominating performance at Pinehurst No.2.

After two rounds, the German led the field by six shots after back-to-back 65s. heading into the final day, he was five clear and would eventually win by eight strokes.

It was a devastating display, becoming the first German to win America’s national title in the process.

Dustin Johnson – 2016 winner

Johnson will have fond memories of the venue this year. In 2016, he finally won his first major title at Oakmont.

He finished the tournament at five-under par, Johnson was penalised a stroke after he was judged to have made his ball move when addressing it on the fifth hole.

Nevertheless, the American still finished three shots clear of his nearest rival and won the first of two major titles.

Brooks Koepka – 2017 and 2018 winner

Koepka had finished T4 at the 2014 edition, but his display at Erin Hills three years later was incredible.

In the end, his final total of 16-under par tied the U.S. Open scoring record and saw him win the first of five major titles.

In 2018, Koepka became the first player since Curtis Strange in 1989 to successful defend the title. It was a tougher task at Shinnecock Hills, with his winning score coming in at one-over par.

Bryson DeChambeau – 2020 and 2024 winner

DeChambeau conquered Winged Foot in 2020, finishing as the only player to finish the tournament under par.

Last year was much more dramatic. He and McIlroy traded blows on the back nine at Pinehurst No.2 in what was a thrilling climax.

The Northern Irishman dropped shots on three of his closing holes, leaving the American needing just a par at the last to win the title.

His fine approach from a greenside bunker set up DeChambeau nicely and he rolled in his par save to win a second U.S. Open crown.

Jon Rahm – 2021 winner

Rahm’s first victory on the PGA Tour came at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, which was held at Torrey Pines.

Four years later, the U.S. Open was held at the San Diego course and of course, Rahm won there once again.

The Spaniard sunk birdie putts at 17 and 18 to secure the championship by a single stroke over Louis Oosthuizen. In turn, becoming the first since Tom Watson in 1982 to finish birdie-birdie and win the trophy.
