3M Open R2

British Masters 2022 R3 - Thorbjørn Olesen takes three-shot lead into final day

Thorbjørn Olesen closed with a 66 on Friday having made eight birdies, one bogey and a double bogey at the par-4 15th for a 66 and a one shot lead at 14-under at the 3M Open.

“I think both days my iron play has been really, really good. I hit a lot of shots really close to the pin and gave myself like a lot of good chances. Yeah, today there was like two or three bad drives that costed me, but I still felt pretty good over the ball. I think I hit some good tee shots out there also.” said Olesen.

He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green (6.526) through two rounds. He picked up 4.313 strokes in round two, the most in a round in his career (previous: 3.72/2018 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational/R3).

Olesen seeks to become the first player from Denmark to win. His best career finish on Tour so far was T3 at the 2018 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

His 128 total is a new career-low 36-hole score on the PGA Tour (previous: 131/2025 RBC Canadian Open/finished T36) and he holds his first 36-hole lead/co-lead in his 95th career start.

Olesen, an eight-time DP World Tour winner, earned PGA Tour membership for the 2025 season after finishing No. 7 in the 2024 DP World Tour Top 10, which awards membership to the top ten finishers in the final Race to Dubai Rankings, not otherwise exempt.

American Jake Knapp carded a bogey-free 65 to move into second place at 13-under. He is bogey free through 36 holes for the first time in his Tour career and leads the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (3.831) and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (8.400) through two rounds.

Playing the 2025 season with conditional status (126-150 in 2024 FedExCup Fall standings), American Pierceson Coody made one bogey and recorded a second 65 for a share of third place at 12-under.

Compatriot Sam Stevens made two bogeys and closed with a 68 for his share of third place. He ranks second and third in Strokes Gained: Around the Green (2.726) and Strokes Gained: Putting (4.983), respectively, through two rounds. Stevens has recorded two top-10 finishes this season including his second career runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Overnight leader Adam Svensson of Canada made a single birdie, three bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 2nd for a 75 and moved down into T32 at 7-under.
