World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler started the day with a four-shot lead at the Open Championship and made five birdies and a double bogey at the par-4 8th to close with a 68 and win by four shots at 17-under.

His 267 total is a personal-best 72-hole score in a major championship (previous: 270/2020 PGA Championship/T4).

With rounds of 68-64-67-68, Scheffler becomes the seventh Open Championship winner to record four rounds in the 60s (first since Collin Morikawa/2021). He also becomes the second reigning top-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking to win The Open Championship (Tiger Woods/2000, 2005, 2006).

“It’s a very special feeling. It takes a lot of work to get to this point in my career,” said Scheffler. “This was a tough week. It was challenging. The golf course was playing really tough, and I had to focus very hard over the course of the weekend.

“Really the only blemish over the last 36 holes was the double on 8, but did a good job of resetting and coming back with a birdie on 9.

“I guess this one was different than the PGA in terms of I had a decent lead to start the day. PGA, I felt like I struggled a bit on the front nine and was able to kind of push forward and win it on the back nine, whereas this one I felt like I built up a lead. It got a little close there after the double on 8, but like I said, bounced back on 9 and was able to keep a pretty sizable lead for most of the day.”

Scheffler is the 31st player with four or more major championship victories (2022 Masters Tournament, 2024 Masters Tournament, 2025 PGA Championship, 2025 Open Championship). This win comes in his 25th start in a major and is his sixteenth top-10 finish. He is the ninth player to win the Masters Tournament, PGA Championship and Open Championship in their career (second this season: Rory McIlroy).

He becomes the first player during the modern major championship era to win his first four majors by three or more strokes: 2022 Masters (3), 2024 Masters (4), 2025 PGA Championship (5), 2025 Open Championship (4).

The American picked up this 17th PGA Tour title in his 146th start at the age of 29. He moves to T50 on the all-time wins list, tied with Bobby Cruickshank, Jim Furyk, Harold McSpaden and Curtis Strange.

This is his third season with four or more wins (2022/4, 2024/7, 2025/4).

Scheffler has finished inside the top-25 in all sixteen starts this season, with a season-high thirteen top-10 finishes (including eleven straight).

He improves to 12-for-18 when leading/co-leading entering the final round in individual stroke-play events on the PGA Tour, having converted the last eight. He improves to 4-for-4 in major championships when holding the 54-hole lead.

This was his tenth straight time winning when carrying the outright lead into the final round.

American Harris English eagled the par-5 12th and made four birdies and one bogey for a 66 and finished second at 13-under. He has finished runner-up in two of the last three major championships this season, both to Scheffler (PGA Championship/T2, The Open Championship/2nd).

Genesis Scottish Open winner Chris Gotterup signed for a 67 having made one bogey and came third at 12-under.

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick made five birdies and three bogeys for a 71 and a share of fourth place at 11-under alongside American Wyndham Clark who produced eight birdies and two bogeys for a 65.

In his sixth appearance at The Open Championship, Haotong Li also finished T4. A third-place finish in his debut appearance at the 2017 Open Championship remains the best finish on the PGA Tour by a player from China.

Ireland’s Shane Lowry, winner of the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, finished T40 at 2-under having made one bogey and six birdies for a final-round 66.
