Adri Arnaus started the final round seven shots off the lead and seemingly out of contention but a bogey-free 65 placed him in a playoff against overnight leader Oliver Bekker of South Africa who shot a 72 to finish with an 11-under, 277 total.

Both players parred the first five extra holes but while the Spaniard also parred the sixth, Bekker made bogey.

“I just tried to be so much in the present today and in the play-off, and it’s been a long play-off,” said Arnaus. “Congratulations of course to Oliver, it’s been an amazing week for him as well but to come through this week is so special.”

“I love the fans so much, they came to support and from Monday to Sunday it’s been an amazing week.

“In the Open de España we were close, in a play-off as well, and this time again in a play-off and we made it so I’m super happy.”

Arnaus’ first victory comes in his 84th start, he had previously finished runner-up five times on the DP World Tour, two of them in Spain.

Second-round leader Laurie Canter of England closed with a 69 for a share of third place alongside fellow countryman Richard McEvoy (69) and Poland’s Adrian Meronk (70).
