Minjee Lee of Australia retained the lead with a Saturday 69 to reach 17-under at the Cognizant Founders Cup, looking for her first win since her maiden major title at the 2021 Amundi Evian Championship

Lee’s 199 total is the second-lowest 54-hole score of her career on the LPGA Tour, one off her record of 198 posted at the 2021 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

She carded two birdies and a bogey in her first five holes then went bogey-eagle-birdie from the 11th to hold onto a one-stroke advantage over Swede Madelene Sagstrom.

“I knew it was sort of in my control a little bit today so I just tried to make as many birdies as I could. I hit a few loose shots here and there so couple bogeys but still a couple birdies too and an eagle,” said Lee. “So it was nice to finish off under par.”

This is the fifth 54-hole lead/co-lead of Lee’s career. In three of her previous four performances, she went on to win and has never finished worse than second when sleeping on the third-round lead.

“Definitely very satisfying to see the hard work you put in and then to see the results. I think it’s really nice just to be able to put up a score and hit good shots and hit good putts. Hopefully I can keep the momentum going into tomorrow.”

Behind her at 16-under, Sagstrom posted the lowest round of the day, a bogey-free 5-under 67. She’s only recorded one bogey in her last 54 holes and is currently second in the field for most birdies through three rounds with 18. Sagstrom carried her momentum from the first two days, opening with three birdies in her first four holes, notching two more on the 12th and 14th to remain in contention.

“It’s just one of those rounds that I been looking for in a while. It felt easy. I felt like I wasn’t trying, but also wasn’t giving myself too much grief when I was missing a putt or lipping it out. I had a lot of good chances and my putter was hot in the beginning but then kind of cooled down, but I wasn’t getting upset,” said Sagstrom.

Lexi Thompson, playing alongside the Swede, posted her third-straight round in the 60s with a 3-under 69 and is currently third at 14-under. She joins Lee as the only remaining players with three-straight rounds in the 60s this week in Clifton

Thompson hit nearly every green in regulation, 17, along with 11 of 14 fairways, and recorded four birdies and a single bogey on Moving Day.

“Coming into the week I knew I was hitting it well. Worked extremely hard in the week off so I put in the work coming out here believing in myself and committing to my golf shots, really just staying in the moment,” said Thompson. “That’s what I’ve done all week and I’ll come out and do the same tomorrow and see where that takes me.”

American Angel Yin lies in solo fourth place after a 4-under 68 moved her to 11-udner overall, alongside her are South African Paula Reto and Americans Megan Khang and Ally Ewing.
