Welshman Rhys Enoch and Dale Whitnell of England share the 36 hole lead in the Cazoo Classic at London Golf Club.

Cazoo Classic 2021 R2

"It was solid," said Whitnell. "I haven’t missed many fairways today. The swing feels in good shape and I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing.

"I’ve never led a tournament. When I was fourth at Close House I was maybe one behind but I’ve just got to take all the experience I’ve had and hopefully it will stand me in good stead going into the weekend.

"This is what we’re all here for and fortunately I’m in that position this week so we’ll see what the weekend brings."

Whitnell produced a bogey free 66 to move to 10-under while Enoch signed for an equally bogey free 65, matching the lowest round of the week.

Neither player has yet won on the European Tour although both recorded wins on the European Challenge Tour in 2019.

Enoch has never even cracked the top ten or had full playing privileges and has had to go through Qualifying School five times.

“I haven't had time to think about the round yet, I was a bit concerned about how bumpy the greens were going to get with this poana grass but I'm chuffed to get into the house with a 65.

"It was really a bit of a grind, but you just have to put one foot in front of the other, play hole-by-hole and we managed to do that.

“The greens are tricky and all the guys know how hard holing out is here so I'm very happy. I was in trouble a couple of times, hit a really good bunker shot on the second to get me out of trouble. Other than that I managed to keep the pace good and hole a couple of long ones and turn in a 65."

They are followed at 9-under by Scotsman Calum Hill (67) and Englishman Jordan Smith (69).

“I think that score is a fair reflection, the long game wasn't quite there today and I felt like I left myself a lot of 30-40-50 footers out there so it was a tough day on those terms," said Smith. "But I'm pleased about how it turned out and I battled, stayed in there and didn't make any mistakes.

“I'm really pleased with no bogeys, it's not easy out there so keeping those colours other than red off your scorecard is great. I'm happy with that."

Overnight leader Richard Bland made two birdies and a bogey and signed for a 71 to slip down the leaderboard into a share of fifth place at 8-under alongside Australian Maverick Antcliff.
