Jordan Spieth hit his final drive into thick grass at the 18th on Saturday but recovered well with an approach to 8 feet. He closed his round with a birdie for a second consecutive 66 and regained the solo lead of the Charles Schwab Challenge at 15-under, 195.

“I think it was just one of those days where I made one not-so-good swing and then I was just protecting against some stuff,” said Spieth.

Jason Kokrak moved into a tie for the lead after birdies on his first two holes. He made back-to-back bogeys on the 5th and 6th but fired four birdies in the back nine before parring the 18th to finish with a 66. He remains in second place and will play with Spieth again in the final round.

Sergio Garcia, who won the event twenty years ago, finished with a 68 and lies alone in third place five shots behind Spieth.

Ian Poulter produced the best round of the day with a 64 and moved up twenty six places into a tie for fourth alongside Sebastián Muñoz (70) at 8-under.
