Miyu Yamashita Opens Six-Shot Lead at CPKC Women’s Open

The Japanese major champion birdied Royal Mayfair’s final hole for a third-round 65, reaching 19 under as she pursues her third LPGA Tour victory of the season.

Miyu Yamashita of Japan hits her tee shot on the 4th hole during the third round of the CPKC Women's Open 2026 at Royal Mayfair Golf Club

Miyu Yamashita will take a six-stroke lead into the final round of the CPKC Women’s Open after completing a third successive round of 65 or better at Royal Mayfair Golf Club.

The 25-year-old Japanese player responded to a bogey at the par-3 17th with a birdie at the par-4 18th on Saturday, finishing with a five-under 65 to reach 19-under 191.

Yamashita began the championship with a course-record 62 and followed it with a 64, which established a five-shot halfway advantage. She has needed only 79 putts across 54 holes on Royal Mayfair’s tree-lined layout in Edmonton.

“I like this course,” Yamashita said. “My feeling so good.”

Yamashita Chases Wire-to-Wire Victory

Yamashita has held the outright lead after every round. Her 36-hole total of 126 set a CPKC Women’s Open record and was seven shots lower than her previous career best through two rounds.

Her 126 was the lowest 36-hole total on the circuit since Inbee Park recorded the same score at the 2014 Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship.

Yamashita has already converted her only previous LPGA Tour lead or co-lead after 36 holes, winning the 2025 AIG Women’s Open. She later claimed the Maybank Championship and was named rookie of the year.

Her success continued this season with victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan in June. A win in Edmonton would be her second LPGA Tour title of 2026 and third since the start of last season.

Kim and Yoshida Lead the Chase

Gina Kim produced a 6-under 64 to move into a tie for second with Yuri Yoshida, who shot 66. Both players are 13-under, six behind Yamashita.

“I think this course is tough but it’s fair,” Kim said. “And if you can capitalize on the ones in the fairway, you’re usually in a pretty good spot, which is what I’ve been trying to do.”

Jennifer Kupcho matched Kim’s 64 and holds fourth place at 12-under. Somi Lee is another shot back after a 65.

Kiara Romero, making her first appearance as an LPGA Tour member, posted a 69 to join Canadian amateur Aphrodite Deng at 10-under. Romero, 20, earned membership through the LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway, following Lottie Woad last year.

Deng supplied the lowest round among the leading Canadians, making seven birdies in a 63. The 16-year-old Calgary native won the 2025 US Girls’ Junior.

“I wasn’t really counting like how low I was shooting,” Deng said. “I was just trying to play as best as I can.”

Henderson Needs a Final-Round Charge

Brooke Henderson, the 2018 and 2025 champion, hit 16 greens in regulation but converted that control into a two-under 68. She is tied at 7-under, 12 strokes off the lead.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda shot 69 to reach 4-under. Lydia Ko, who won at Royal Mayfair as an amateur in 2013, also returned a 69 and sits at two under.

Yamashita will begin Sunday’s final round with Kim and Yoshida six shots behind.
