Patrick Reed put the embedded-ball controversy behind him and produced a great short-game to run away with a five-shot victory in the Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday.

Reed started the day tied for the lead at 10-under and fired three birdies, an eagle at the par-5 6th and a single bogey at the 8th for a 4-under 68 and his ninth PGA Tour title. His victory moves him up fifty five places to number 10 in the FedExCup standings.

โ€œYou look at all the great players throughout times, all of them are really resilient. It doesn't really matter what's going on around them, what's going on on the golf course, whether they're getting good breaks or bad breaks, they seem to really figure out a way to get the job done, to really just drive in and to keep on improving each shot each day,โ€ said Reed.

โ€œThat's golf, that's what you're supposed to do. That's why I love the game. It throws punches at you; you throw punches at it. And at the end of the day hopefully you're the one standing.

โ€œGolf's hard as it is, and you come to a place like this where it's so demanding. Not just off the tees. It doesn't matter if it's a drive, an iron shot, a wedge shot, putt, you have to be all locked in 24/7.โ€

Tony Finau came close once again and tied for second alongside Xander Schauffele, Ryan Palmer, Henrik Norlander and Viktor Hovland at 9-under.

"I hit it really nice this week and I was really happy with that," said Finau. "It felt quite simple. Putting needs some work, there is no question about that. It kind of let me down today and I was kind of bummed I missed some short ones on the back nine. Overall, it was another solid week and I can continue to build from this."

Hovland came closest to Reed on Sunday with making four birdies on the front nine but he lost momentum on his way back, bogeyed the 14th, 15th and 17th and parred the rest for a 71.

Carlos Ortiz who started the day with a share of the lead made three bogeys and three birdies on the front nine to make the turn in 36, but four more bogeys and a double bogey at 12th left him to close with a 78 and he finished tied for 29th at 4-under for the tournament.
