Torrey Pines, San Diego, California
$7,500,000
Round 2
, Round 3, Round 4

Patrick Reed started his first round of the Farmers Insurance Open on the back nine with three birdies and closed with three more on the 15th, 16th and 17th for a bogey-free 8-under 64, tied for the lead with Alex Noren.

"I put myself in position today where I had to go out knowing that we're going to get pretty good conditions, go out and try to make as many birdies as possible to be able to kind of weather the storm tomorrow," said Reed. "I was able to kind of get off to a hot start and just kind of ride momentum going on through the rest of the round and continue attacking that golf course since that's the one you're able to attack.

"I was hitting the ball off the tee. You have to play from the fairway, shoot a low number and attack the course. Especially with what's coming tomorrow."

Noren also started on the back nine and was 4-under through eight holes after an eagle at the par-5 17th but bogeyed the 18th before playing his final nine holes in 5-under.

"I hit it very good with my irons and wedges, putted very good," said Noren. "The driver wasn't as good as I wanted it, but out here (on the North Course) you could get away with it if you manage to get out of the rough, hit the greens anyway. But I definitely need to shape up the driver for tomorrow."

Scottie Scheffler, in second place one stroke back, and the leaders all played on Torrey Pines' easier North Course and could face a harder second round on the South Course as heavy rain is forecast overnight and into the morning.

"Yeah, I'm hoping that we're going to not get too flooded during the night," said Noren. "But I played the South Course two rounds this week and I know how long it is now, especially when they lengthened some tee boxes, put them back. It's a test. You definitely need some good ball striking there, especially in windy conditions. It's good to get some birdies on the North, yeah."

Peter Malnati, who closed with an eagle on the par-5 18th, and Ryan Palmer shot the lowest scores on the South Course, 66, and are tied in fourth place at 6-under alongside ten other players.

Rory McIlroy, playing the South Course, shot four birdies on the front nine but only made one more on the 17th for a 68 and is tied alongside ten others at-under.

"I did well. I got off to a great start, 4-under through nine," said McIlroy. "A little disappointed I didn't pick up a couple more on the way in, especially with the two par 5s, not picking up any shots there. Yeah, I think anytime you shoot 68 on the South Course here you've got to be pretty happy."

Defending champion Marc Leishman made five birdies on the South Course but also triple bogeyed the par-4 4th and made another bogey at the 13th to sign for a 71.
