Women’s PGA 2021 R2
June 24-27
Highlands Course, Atlanta Athletic Club, Georgia
$4,500,000
Round 1, Round 3, Round 4

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Nelly Korda started her round with a bogey at the par-4 10th but didn't take a step wrong for the rest of her round. She fired six consecutive birdies in her back nine to close with a tournament record-tying 63 at Atlanta Athletic Club and heads into the weekend with a one shot lead over first round leader Lizette Salas at 11-under.

Women’s PGA 2021 R2

“I just blacked out out there,” said Korda. “Actually, the one on 17, No. 8, was the highlight of my round.

“I pushed my drive out right, and I was near a root, so I wasn't even sure if I could hit it. Thankfully, I hit just the top of it. It's so scary when you have those types of shots. To drain a long putt was nice, too.”

Women’s PGA 2021 R2

Korda has won twice so far this year at the Gainbridge LPGA in February and at last week's Meijer LPGA Classic.

“Every week is a new week,” Korda said. “Every golf course is a new monster, new golf course. When you win, it's hard. In a sense, you kind of don't even get to enjoy it because I won and then hey, it's a major championship, like get ready. They're two completely different golf courses and two different strategies. It's just good golf that I've been playing, and hopefully I can continue on with that.”

Salas shot a bogey-free 67 to back up her opening 67.

“I'm definitely satisfied. We came in with some goals, and we're reaching them. I think overall my attitude has been pretty solid. It's a major; it's supposed to be tough. It's supposed to test you in several different ways, and I think I'm handling it quite well, and back-to-back 67s, I'm not going to complain. I think this is good momentum going into the weekend.”

Women’s PGA 2021 R2

Celine Boutier started the tournament with an uninspiring 73 but stayed focused and produced seven birdies, an eagle at the par-4 6th and a single bogey at the 8th for a 64 and a tie for third place at 7-under.

“I was definitely a bit worried yesterday because I wasn't hitting as well. I went to the range and managed to find something in my swing that helped me today. I hope I can build on some confidence for the weekend.”
