Victor Perez takes a narrow lead at 5-under into the final day of the Porsche European Open on his way to possible back-to back victories.

“I hit a fair amount of good shots that didn’t end up pin-high. It was a difficult round, so anything under par I’m delighted with.”

The Frenchman, who won last week’s Dutch Open, carded a 71 on Saturday that featured two birdies, three bogeys and a hole-in-one at the par-3 second hole after holing out with a six iron from 217 yeards.

“It was a perfect six iron for me, a little draw against the left-to-right breeze,” said Perez. “I didn’t actually see it.

“I birdied the first and was trying to hit a good shot, I was just trying to bounce it up, which it ended up doing. I didn’t see it, I just heard people clapping, so it was a great bonus.

“It was very difficult conditions again, I thought the course played really difficult. The wind wasn’t as obvious as I would have liked, or everybody would have liked. So you’re guessing ‘is it north, is it east, is it north-east’, so it became difficult to get distance control right.”

A win on Sunday would garner Perez one of the ten available places in the US Open from the European Qualifying Series.

Compatriot Julien Brun and Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren also carded 71s and share second place at 4-under

China’s Haotong Li (71) and Dutchman Wil Besseling (70) share fourth place at 3-under.
