Arpichaya Yubol Takes One-Shot Lead Into Portland Classic Weekend

Back-to-back rounds of 66 put the 24-year-old Thai player at 12 under, with three players close behind as she chases her first LPGA Tour victory.

Arpichaya Yubol of Thailand plays her shot from the fifth tee during the second round of The Standard Portland Classic

Arpichaya Yubol shot a second successive 6-under 66 on Friday to take the halfway lead at The Standard Portland Classic.

The 24-year-old Thai player reached 12-under 132 at Columbia-Edgewater Country Club, giving her a one-stroke advantage with two rounds remaining. Yubol is seeking her first LPGA Tour victory after finishing second at Mayakoba and the ShopRite LPGA earlier this season.

“It was a pretty good day for my putter,” Yubol said after completing 36 holes with only one bogey.

That dropped shot came at the par-4 18th, immediately after a birdie at the 17th had moved her to 13-under. It was her first bogey of the tournament.

“It’s golf, so it always happens,” Yubol said. “For me, 36 holes with just one bogey is amazing.”

Three Players Tied for Second

Pajaree Anannarukarn and Sophia Schubert matched Yubol’s 66 to reach 11-under. Hye-Jin Choi joined them one shot behind the leader after returning a bogey-free 67.

Choi made her move on the front nine. After opening with four pars, she birdied the par-5 5th and par-4 6th before making an eagle at the par-5 7th. She added a birdie at the par-5 12th, her final birdie of the round.

The 26-year-old from the Republic of Korea has made 13 cuts in 17 LPGA Tour starts during 2026, recording four top-10 finishes and 11 top-25 results. She remains without an LPGA title but has won 12 times on the KLPGA, most recently at the 2023 Lotte Open.

Schubert credited work during an extended break for her position near the top of the leaderboard.

“I had five or six weeks off at home leading up to this, and I worked really hard,” Schubert said. “Worked on my putting because that’s what I need to work on. It’s just really been clicking, making putts.”

Ryu Heads the Chasing Group

Haeran Ryu shot 68 to reach 9-under and lead a large group three strokes behind Yubol. Ryu arrived in Portland after winning consecutive majors at the KPMG Women’s PGA and Evian Championship.

First-round leader Mariel Galdiano could not repeat her opening 65. A second-round 71 left her tied for 12th at 8-under.

Lexi Thompson missed the cut after rounds of 73 and 72. Earlier in the week, Thompson announced that she and her husband, Max Provost, are expecting a daughter in February.

María José Marín also missed the cut by one stroke. The Colombian amateur, who won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the 2025 NCAA individual title, followed her opening 66 with a 75. She is preparing for her senior season at Arkansas.
