Past champions Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay will enter the final round of the Memorial Tournament with a three shot lead on Sunday.

The Memorial 2021 R3

Morikawa shot a 6-under 66 and Cantlay a 4-under 68 to tie at 12-under but only took their position at the top of the leaderboard after Jon Rahm had to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19.

Rahm, who held a six-shot lead after shooting a 64, was subject to contact-tracing protocols after being in contact with a person who tested positive and remained in the competition with limited access to indoor facilities and daily testing.

The Memorial 2021 R3

He tested negative every day and remains asymptomatic but his test before the third round came back positive at 4.20 pm. A second sample was taken and was also positive. Rahm was notified upon completion of his round and withdrew, he will need to remain in isolation until the 15th of June in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Morikawa's 66 included eight birdies and two bogeys. He nearly aced the par-3 th when his ball dipped into the hole but failed to drop.

The Memorial 2021 R3

“I want to go see the replay right now. It looked pretty good from my end. It landed a lot closer than I thought, but I don't know speed-wise how hard it was going in because it was about a foot away from the hole. That would have been really cool, but what are you going to do?” said Morikawa.

“Today was really solid. The couple bogeys I had were just kind of poor bogeys. But it's going to happen out here, especially if you're missing the fairways. And overall, I was hitting some really quality shots.

“I stuck to my game and stuck to the game plan. Out here with these soft greens you can get a little aggressive with wedges and put yourself in bad spots, but I thought I played pretty smart and I've got to do that tomorrow.”

The Memorial 2021 R3

Cantlay was satisfied with his five bogeys and single bogey at the par-3 16th.

“I thought I played really well. I made a lot of clutch putts on the front and didn't make as many as I would have liked on the back but closed with a good one. My game's in a good spot. I hit a lot of solid shots today and played really well. So I'm pretty pleased.”

“I really like this golf course and see the golf course really well, and so all the good memories I have here, it's just easier to stand up and visualize the shot that I want to hit. It's nice when you have that feeling around a place like I do here.”

Morikawa won the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession and Cantlay the Zozo Championship @ Sherwood, should either win on Sunday they would become the fourth multiple winner this season following Bryson DeChambeau, Stewart Cink and Jason Kokrak.

Cantlay, who is currently 10th in the FedEx Cup, could also move to number 1 with a win.

Branden Grace (67) and Scottie Scheffler (69) are tied for third place at 9-under.
